Short company description: Leadership Jacksonville educates, connects and inspires diverse individuals to build and strengthen their communities.

What makes your company unique?: We don’t teach leadership skills – we take adults and youth who are already demonstrating leadership and explore areas of community concern. Our programs look at issues and assets in the community and work to help participants find their passion, people and programs where they can work for the betterment of the community.

How do you define success?: Success for Leadership Jacksonville means seeing our alumni participating on nonprofit boards, running for local office, engaging their businesses to make a difference in community issues. We are the catalyst that can help others to become involved for the good of the entire community.

Who in the industry inspires you and why?: I am inspired by the many nonprofit leaders who work everyday to solve difficult issues – homelessness, discrimination, healthcare for the uninsured. The list goes on. These leaders bring passion and amazing skills to the work that they do.

What is a tip for success that you would provide someone in your same industry?: Know your mission – and make sure that the work you are doing matches your mission and is moving your organization (and the community) forward.

What excites you most about your industry?: The many amazing folks who continue to work as leaders in the nonprofit sector.

What is the biggest challenge you think you or your organization is going to face in the upcoming year?: The duration of the COVID pandemic continues to bring new challenges. We have planned multiple scenarios for our programs and fundraising efforts for a year now. It creates extra stress on staff and volunteers.

Who is a Trustee in our community that you admire and why?: Alton Yates – At different stages of his life Alton has served as a hero, a mentor, a fighter for justice, and now an elder willing to share his amazing life story. He has made a difference for our community and is an inspiration.
