What makes your company unique?: Both shows have the power of connection. They show people that they are not alone. That like speaks to like.

How do you define success?: If one person in my audience can feel that they have been seen or touched by a story or topic then my job is done for the hour.

Who in the industry inspires you and why?: My favorite public figures have always been Maya Angelou and Fred Rogers, but as far as professionally, I think my interview style has mostly been influenced by people like Christian Amanpour, Ann Curry, Larry King. They have a way of truly leaning in and actively listening. They have a conversation with their guests. I think that is more important than just asking questions.

What is a tip for success that you would provide someone in your same industry?: Don’t just ask questions. Have a conversation. Engage. It’s not only a great way to put your guest at ease, I think it’s more interesting for the audience.

What excites you most about your industry?: I know that traditional TV and Radio will never go away but they are evolving and the audience is shifting away from appointment watching. We have been for yrs. So having shows you can literally take with you that are not tied to any network or sponsor or advertiser is exciting.

What is the biggest challenge you think you or your organization is going to face in the upcoming year?: I think that journalists in general are are and will be fighting a tough battle to win back the public trust after the last 2 POTUS elections. There were a lot of lies passed off as truth. Overwhelmingly on the right but some on the left and there was very little fact-checking done in the 2016 election.

Who is a Trustee in our community that you admire and why?: Donna Deegan and Lakesha Burton. I so admire Asst Chief Burton and I think she will make an excellent Sherriff. And I think Donna Deegan should run for Mayor.
